Good Grubbin

When I drive up to work on Saturdays, i always see this guy with a big bbq smoker and grill. He's there early in the morning preparing chicken, ribs, tri-tip, hot links, ham, etc. He tows the grill with his truck and proceeds to bbq straight out of the rig. He hangs out at this deserted gas station and writes his menu on large sandwich boards. In pasadena, you have to get a permit for sandwich boards, not to mention doling out food at a gas station. But because we're all in good old altadena, under the jurisdiction of Los Angeles, you can pretty much get away with anything (not that we do anything illegal).

Anyhow...after a quick floral delivery to the Westin, Ellison (who was my partner in crime for the day) and I decided we wanted to grab lunch before the day got crazy. Because Ellison eats almost anything, i thought he was a great contender to try out this place. He ordered a rib combo, and i got a chicken plate:

*3 rib combo with baked beans (so good and creamy, probably due to the chunk of fat that ellison found swimming in it), potato salad, and wheat bread

*chicken plate (minus the potato salad). It was the best bbq chicken i've ever had. chicken was moist, cooked to perfection, and lots of bbq sauce to further smother in.

After the wedding delivery, we went to eat at Savoy's. I had a craving for chicken rice after watching an episode of Anthony Bourdain in Singapore. Michelle, David, Ellison and I all ordered the hainan chicken rice:

*we sat in a row at the counter but i believe all 7 ppl at the counter were eating hainan chicken

Yes, I know, food again. But i must share the goodness! If you want to eat good bbq, go on a Saturday or Sunday to Lake & Morada St (across from the used car lot that was filmed in Transformers). And bring plenty of napkins! :)
